11th Taekwon-Do SA Elite National Championships held

The new club in Edenvale, instructed by Ruan Hageman and Natasha Voorhout managed two gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals.

The 11th Taekwon-Do South Africa Elite National Championships were held at Mandeville Sports and Social Centre on April 13.

Various age groups were present to battle it out for the win.

The medal count for Sabum Denis Magua’s Mister Knuckles Gym in Malvern, which draws many of its students from Kensington, Bedfordview and Edenvale totaled 17 gold medals, eight silver and four bronze medals.

The new club in Edenvale, instructed by Ruan Hageman and Natasha Voorhout managed two gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals.

The little ones in the competition were five to six-year-old students.

They took part in sparring, patterns (forms) and the Tiger Course which is a series of exercises and fun Taekwon-Do games.They were also taught basic self defence relevant to their age, kicking, punching and blocking.

They learn the basics of martial art movements and the exercises are designed to work on their fine motor skills.
