Motorists’ safety at risk due to loose stones
Motorists say loose concrete stones on the intersection of Club Street and Linksfield Road in Bedfordview are a danger to the road users.

A Bedfordview resident who works from home, Mr Mervyn Evans, said the stones look like they fell from a ready mixed concrete truck that was passing the intersection more than two weeks ago.
“I know when you are driving you take a risk but driving here is an abnormal risk. Other vehicles may hit you with these stones as they pass. You may also hit others with these stones. So as you pass through this intersection you are at risk of being hit, or hitting someone else with stones. This means we cannot safely access the route we are used to,” said Mr Evans.
He added that these stones also damage the road.
“Not long ago this road was redone. Now these loose stone are damaging it. This is damage to public property. Like the damage to the vehicles and pedestrians, who will take responsibility? Will the metro take responsibility or the company that dropped the load? Or would I have to get my insurance to pay for it and risk losing my bonus? Even then, how many times could I put in claims to my insurance as these stones have been here for so many weeks?” Mr Evans asked. He said that some weeks ago he approached the metro police that were conducting the road block close to this intersection to do something about these stones.
“They said we should go and report it to their superintendent. I think they are not doing their job. They should be reporting or removing everything that is affecting traffic flow on the road. To say we have to report it ourselves, tells another picture,” Mr Evans said.
Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s (EMM) spokesperson, Mr Samuel Modiba, said the matter is being investigated.
