Bone marrow drive
Mode De Vie Medical and Aesthetics in Eden Meadows hosted a successful bone marrow donor drive on July 27.
Dr Nicole Kanaris explained bone marrow transplant procedures to all donors. She said that the procedure is simple and painless, just like donating blood for a transfusion.
No large needles and no lumbar punctures are required to donate.
During the drive, 80 people were put on the bone marrow registry. Dr Kanaris hopes that one of them will be a match for Vearin Naidoo who desperately needs a bone marrow transplant in order to save his life.
All the costs were covered by The Pink Aliceband Campaign. Women from the Sunflower Fund assisted donors in completing their forms and ensuring they met all international criteria to become bone marrow donors. Lancet Laboratories’ sisters were there to painlessly take two tubes of blood.
Vearin’s mother and father also joined the event and spoke and thanked all the people who were present. Everyone was treated to cupcakes donated by Cupcakes of Hope.
Anyone who missed the drive but who still want to become a bone marrow donor in order to save a life or help Vearin or another child with a life-threatening illness, should contact Dr Nicole Kanaris. E-mail your name, surname and phone number to drnkanaris@gmail.com
