Construction of police station resumes
The construction of the Yeoville Police Station has resumed, again.
This is after there were labour-related disruptions that halted work from being done two weeks ago.
The workers expressed their unhappiness with the site manager, who was not hiring local labour in the construction of the police station.
“Work has resumed and we hope the disruptions will be a thing of the past,” said community liasons officer, Mr Patrick Wisani.
The construction is already four months behind schedule and the community is wondering when they will finally have a police station.
Initially, the project was due to be completed in January 2014, but constant disruptions have pushed the date back. Officers are currently using a five-roomed house with containers outside for offices. The police station does not have holding cells and normally books suspects at the nearby Hillbrow Police Station.
“The site manager has been replaced with a new manager and hopefully the workers will be happier working with him and we can be nearer to completion,” said Mr Wisani.
