Spring into action this Sunday

It is almost time to roll out from under the blanket and take it along with you to lie on the grass and welcome spring.

The Kensington Spring Fair, which attracts thousands of people from across Gauteng will take place in Rhodes Park on Sunday, September 1.

This annual event is hosted by the I Love Kensington Association (Ilka).

Ms Sue Muller, the Ilka communications officer, said, “The Kensington Spring Fair is a fun, relaxing day to spend with your family and to give a little back to charity.”

This year’s fair has stall holders from as far afield as Pretoria.

Entertainment will be provided by a variety of artists. Food stalls will cater for various tastes, ranging from boerewors rolls, mini donuts, Chip and Dip to Indian and Chinese cuisine.

There will be a diverse range of stalls, from arts and crafts, esoteric to farmers’ stalls.

Local churches, schools and community organisations will be represented at the event.

All visitors will be charged a R1 entrance fee.

Gates open to the public on the day are in Montague Street, the Rhodes Park Library and on Langermann Drive at the tennis club in Orlando Street, close to the Rhodes Park Bowling Club.

“This is to maximise the security of those inside the park on the day,” said Ms Muller.

People who bring dogs are requested to keep them on a leash. The event takes place from 9am to 4pm.

Proceeds made by Ilka on the day will be donated to charity. “We know that there are several charities in and around Kensington. If you would like to be considered for a donation from the proceeds of this event, please send a request on your organisation’s letterhead with the registered non-profit organisation number to chair@kensington.org.za before September 6. The committee will convene on September 9 to make its decisions. We want the donations to be fair to all concerned,” said Mrs Lornette Joseph, the chairperson of Ilka.
