Man arrested for child kidnapping

A 25-year-old man has been arrested by the Jeppe police for kidnapping, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and statutory rape.

This came after a mother opened a case on behalf of her 13-year-old daughter, who alleged she was taken forcefully by the suspect.

“The victim allegedly left home on a Monday and came back the following afternoon,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, of the Jeppe SAPS. When asked where she had been, she claimed she had been forcefully taken and kept by the suspect who she claimed was her boyfriend. “She says the suspect took her from a tavern and threatened to assault her if she did not go to his house with him,” said Warrant Officer Munyai. The suspect allegedly stabbed her four times with a knife and raped her. He then locked her inside a room until he released her when he heard that her mother was looking for her. He will appear in the Jeppe Magistrate’s Court soon and investigations are continuing.
