Request to be considered
Requests for a speed and red light camera will be considered if the situation warrants it.

Kensington residents recently called on council to improve, and implement, traffic calming measures in Roberts Avenue to prevent accidents, injuries and deaths.
Last month the EXPRESS reported that pedestrians are constantly trying to dodge speeding motorists, while local residents driving into and out of side roads are at risk of being rear-ended by other impatient motorists.
Motorists driving up and down Roberts Avenue refuse to stop at the Blenheim Street intersection when the traffic lights are red.
Parents and Jeppe High Preparatory School staff also said children are at risk because motorists speed through the blind rise.
Several residents suggested that traffic lights be installed at the Roberts Avenue and Collingwood Street intersection to reduce the risks posed to people.
They also requested the timing of the traffic lights at the Blenheim Street and Roberts Avenue intersection be extended. A request was also made to reduce the speed limit and install a speed and red light camera.
Superintendent Edna Mamonyane, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s (JMPD) spokesperson, said the community should write letters explaining the need for these cameras to the JMPD Director of Licensing and prosecutions, Director Gerrie Gerneke.
“Once the request is received, officials will be sent out to investigate and determine if the situation warrants a camera. A survey will be conducted. The officials will consider the number of people not adhering to the traffic laws and the danger posed. A decision will be made thereafter,” said Supt Mamonyane.
