Wine auction for NSRI
Rotarians from the Rotary Clubs of Claremont and Table Bay have scoured the winelands in search of something special.

They have been seeking donations of unusual wines from farmers throughout the district – from a standard 750 millilitre bottle to giant nine litre bottles – all have been collected by the Rotarians.
The purpose of collecting these strange and unique bottles of wine is simple – to hold a wine auction to benefit the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).
Every year, two NSRI wine auctions are held, one by the Western Cape Rotarians and the other by the Gauteng Rotarians.
The beneficiary of this year’s auctions is the NSRI’s Yzerfontein base station.
The station mainly supports subsistence fishermen who launch from the base and who come from various areas in their droves when “the fish are running”.
To a lesser degree, the station also services the local Yzerfontein community and holiday makers.
At present, the facility is a basic shipping container with shade cloth in a parking lot, which gives the rescue boat no protection from either theft or weather.
This year the Gauteng event will take place on Wednesday, October 9.
Residents who would like to support this life-saving project and, at the same time, enjoy an evening of good food, entertainment and unusual wines can contact Rotarian Bill Brunjes on 082 443 1519 or email billbrn@tiscali.co.za.
A table of ten is priced at R3 500 and all proceeds from the auction will go towards the NSRI.
