Spokesperson for the JCPZ, Ms Jenny Moodley, said the fencing and razor wire will act as a deterrent to crime.
The fencing was installed close to the Rhodes Park Library.
The EXPRESS recently published articles in which residents raised concerns about the lack of safety within the park.
Problems in the park were so bad that the Cleveland SAPS also called on council to implement security measures.
Crimes committed in the park include robberies and muggings.
The JCPZ said it was considering several options to increase safety for residents.
Clr Carlos da Rocha, of ward 66, welcomed the replacement of the fencing.
“I am glad the fencing was replaced as this will keep vagrants out of the park at night. I also hope more is done to secure the park. All gates should be locked to keep people out of the park at night,” he said.
Ms Moodley said the JCPZ is considering handing over the park’s keys to community members.
“If keys are handed to community members something will also have to be done to ensure everyone is out of the park when it closes,” said Clr Da Rocha.
Ms Moodley urged residents to report all service concerns to the JCPZ’s client relations department on 011 712-6600.
