Community launches anti-crime campaign

The Edenvale SAPS and Karaglen Shopping Centre will launch the Tiles 4 Change anti-drug campaign on Friday, October 4, with a Walk Against Crime.

On the day, dignitaries, police officers, members of security companies, school pupils and church congregations will be led by the SAPS band as they walk from Horwood’s Farm to Karaglen Shopping Centre.

At the centre, the first of hundreds of tiles will go on sale to community members and businesses who want to see a drug free Edenvale.

Tiles will be placed at the entrance of Karaglen Shopping Centre as a testament to all those who stand with the SAPS in their fight against drugs.

Tiles for school pupils will cost R10 while adults will pay R50.

Business tiles will cost R1 000.

All funds raised from the purchase of tiles will be donated to anti-drug campaigns.

The project, run in conjunction with the Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF), is the first of its kind in Gauteng.

“We hope this project will take off in other towns across South Africa,” said Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, the acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS.

The walk will start at 9am for 9.30am from Horwood’s Farm and will proceed up Baker Road to the Karaglen Shopping Centre.

Residents and motorists are asked to take note that Baker Road will be closed for the duration of the walk to ensure the safety off all participants.

Anyone wanting to join the walk is asked to be at Horwood’s Farm from 9am.
