The City of Ekurhuleni has urged residents to reduce electricity consumption as freezing temperatures place additional pressure on the power grid.
The City of Ekurhuleni has urged residents to use electricity sparingly as freezing temperatures place increased pressure on the electricity grid.
The City said in a media statement that high electricity demand during cold weather can put additional strain on the network and encouraged residents to help maintain a stable supply by using electricity responsibly.
Residents are advised to use only one heater at a time and switch off geysers and pool pumps during peak hours.

The City also urged residents to report illegal electricity connections, which it said are a major cause of recurring outages in neighbourhoods.
The City confirmed that teams are currently in the field attending to existing electricity interruptions.
Residents who need to report an outage can contact the City of Ekurhuleni’s service centre on 0860 543 000.
The City thanked residents for their co-operation and encouraged them to use electricity wisely during the cold conditions.
