Meeting scheduled for proposed liquor store
The community will voice their approval or disapproval regarding a planned liquor store and butchery in the area.

The residents of Observatory will have their say at a meeting with the Gauteng Liquor Board scheduled for October 22 at the corner of Main and Kruis streets in the Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD).
The community will voice their approval or disapproval regarding a planned liquor store and butchery in the area.
Mr Keith Peacock, who is the chairperson of the Yeoville Community Police Forum (CPF), is named as the objector at the hearing. The community is concerned about the number of liquor outlets in the area. The liquor shop, if opened, would be in walking distance from two schools in the area and pupils would be exposed to the liquor outlet.
“We do not need any more liquor outlets in the area, we already have these outlets in almost every street,” said Mr Joseph Dube, the secretary of the Yeoville CPFs Sector 3.
He said residents would have a difficult time dealing with the noise and the activities related with drinking alcohol. A resident in the area said that should the liquor outlet be opened, problems would multiply in the area.
“We are already dealing with prostitutes in the area, what will happen if drunk men are brought into the picture?” asked Ms Mavi, who works in the area.
