Substation sex-haven gets new wall
A wall is being built to secure the substation on Steyn Street in Observatory.
The EXPRESS reported in its September 24 edition, that it was being used by prostitutes to conduct their business.
The prostitutes would bring their clients and have them jump over the fence to gain entry. Residents of the area complained about the activities at the substation as the prostitutes were there even during the day, in full view of passing school children.
Residents believe the presence of the prostitutes in the area will lead to increased crime.
This was discussed at a meeting of the Sector 3 Community Police Forum (CPF) held on September 27.
“We hope we can finally get the substation secured so that people will struggle to gain entry. We must also commend the City of Johannesburg’s Region F officials for finally acting on the issue,” said Mr Joseph Dube, the secretary of the Sector 3 CPF.
Mr Dube said he had been struggling to get anybody to act on the matter.
The Yeoville SAPS said they were pleased with the news.
“Hopefully the community can find a degree of peace, we have asked for the substation to be secured as it had been used as a hide-out by vagrants as well,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS.
