IT showcase

The top three winners each gave a presentation describing their project’s features and highlights.

St Benedict’s College hosted the third IT Showcase with a marked improvement in the quality of grade 12 projects.

Female participants, Sara Owen from Roedean School and Amy Lauren Brodie from Randpark High School, participated against 20 other competitors.

The judges, Marijke Coetzee (University of Johannesburg), Rennie Naidoo (University of Pretoria) and Adrian Cuthbertson (University of Witwatersrand) had the tough task judging all the entrants owing to the improved standard of projects.

The top three winners each gave a presentation describing their project’s features and highlights. Matthew Fulton and Fabio Lorreggian both coded networked games and Tashiv Sewpersad coded a programme to plan the layout of a space given certain criteria.

The competition was judged in three rounds with competitors being eliminated at each round. At the final prize giving, external hard drives were awarded to the following category winners:

Best Interface / Graphics went to Tashiv Sewpersad.

Most Advanced Coding went to Matthew Fulton.

Best Interactive Game went to Keagan Seddon.

Most Creative Solution went to Matthew Botha.

Best Documentation went to Matthew Fulton.

Judge’s Discretionary Award for Most Novel and Practical Business Concept went to Sara Owen.

The final placement was Matthew Fulton in first place. He won a laptop, an iPad mini, an external hard drive, R2 000 and a bursary for the first year at Rhodes University.

In second place was Tashiv Sewpersad. He won a laptop, an iPad mini and an external hard drive.

In third place was Fabio Loreggian. He won won an external hard drive, R1 000 and a tablet device.

In addition, the University of Johannesburg awarded bursaries to the value of R5 000 to the competitors in places 11 to 20 and bursaries to the value of R10 000 to competitors in the top 10 positions.
