Construction of new police station continues

The construction of the new Yeoville Police Station continues and no labour-related interruptions have been reported.

The EXPRESS previously reported on the number of interruptions the construction process endured and how the completion of the police station is now four months behind schedule.

In June, workers at the site went on strike, expressing their disapproval at the lack of local labour being hired at the site.

The workers demanded that the construction company keep to its agreement as per tender requirement to hire local labour.

Members of the community asked when the police station will be opened. “Construction has been going on for years now, when will we be able to have a people-friendly police station, with the different trauma rooms for adults and children?” asked Mr Bheki Nkumane, a resident of Yeoville.

The site manager, Mr Patrick Wisani, said he was not anticipating any further delays. “Everything has been on track, we are still four months behind schedule but the work continues,” said Mr Patrick Islamic.
