Athletes take on fitness challenge

Newly crowned Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) Africa welterweight champion, Dino "The Lion” Bagattin, attended the event to hand over the winners' prizes and meet and greet his fans.

Bhekani Mafuleka and Dr Santa-Marié Venter proved their might at the Fighting Fit – EFC Africa Ultimate Fitness Challenge on October 13.

Some of South Africa’s fittest athletes competed at the event held at the Italian Club in Bedfordview.

Bhekani, a fitness enthusiast from Edenvale, was the men’s overall winner. He completed the challenge in two minutes and 43 seconds.

Dr Santa-Marié Venter, a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter from Pretoria who represented Team Gorilla Warefare, took first place in the women’s category with a time of three minutes and 24 seconds.

Organiser and chairman of the Fighting Fit programme, Pietro Cignoli said, “It was a glorious day and fun was had by all. A big thank you to Giulliano Lodo and the Italian Club for hosting us.”

Fighting Fit Africa is a youth and community upliftment project that promotes a healthier lifestyle through encouraging participation in sports and fitness activities.

A team from the Fighting Fit Twilight Home in Hillbrow competed in the event and all the boys completed the course. Transport, snacks and refreshments for the Twilight boys was sponsored by Stallion Security.

The Fighting Fit programme is supported by EFC Africa, Stallion Security, Smacktalk MMA, World of Warriors, Fightstar and Lindsay Saker Edenvale.
