Sacred Heart College

Despite putting up a fierce fight, Sacred Heart College came second at the B league inter-high athletics meeting held at the Johannesburg Stadium in Doornfontein on October 4.

Athletes achieved personal best times and distances in their respective events.

Sacred Heart College came second out of eight schools, losing by a mere six points.

New records were set by:

Brione Bryan, Frances Bailey, Olayemi Okesokun and Makgano Mlaba in the U/16 girls 4×100 metre relay.

Thando Vilakazi in the U/18 boys 200 metre race.

Ashleigh Vetten in the U/15 girls and Thomas Payne for the U/18 boys 400 metre race.

Tanya Maravanyika in the U/14 girls and Laurent Baillache in the U/17 boys shot put event.

Astrid Kuhn in the U/14 girls javelin event.

Mbali Khumalo in the U/16 girls javelin and discus events.

Robyn Glanville in the U/15 girls and Minenhle Twalo in the U/17 girls high jump event.

George Mokoena in the U/17 boys 1 500 metre race.

Team manager, Cindy Niken said, “Without question, this has been one of the most successful athletics seasons of late. I am incredibly proud to have managed this amazing group of athletes. I congratulate every athlete who has contributed to the success of the team this season and encourage them to aim even higher next season.”
