Sergeant Desmond De Mackett, the ward 66 commander from the JMPD, said authorities have established that criminals are using abandoned vehicles to target people.
“Criminals are sleeping in these vehicles at night and targeting people early in the morning. We have impounded quite a few abandoned vehicles already,” he said.
The most recently abandoned vehicle was found in Bellevue East.
Clr Carlos da Rocha, of ward 66, said he received complaints from community members about an abandoned vehicle in Muller Street a few weeks ago. He reported it to the JMPD and officers attended to the complaint.
“We removed the vehicle. It was established that the vehicle had false registration plates as well. Please be careful and report all suspicious vehicles and people,” said Sgt De Mackett.
Clr Da Rocha commended the JMPD for their response to his complaint. “They are doing a great job in the ward and I commend them,” he said.
