Guard, bystander shot in heist attempt

An attempted cash-in-transit heist resulted in a shootout during which a security guard and a bystander were wounded in Yeoville on December 2.

The incident occurred at the corner of Raleigh and Kenmere streets.

“Five armed men attacked a G4S security van and attempted to rob them of the money they were transporting. The security guards resisted and a struggle ensued,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS.

One of the suspects shot a security guard, hitting him in the shoulder. A bystander was shot in the thigh.

“The suspects fled without taking the money and the case is being investigated by the Yeoville SAPS,” said Const Malatji.
