The St Andrew’s School for Girls 2013 matric class achieved a 100 percent pass rate for the 25th consecutive year.
The girls wrote the IEB National Senior Certificate examinations, where candidates must offer a minimum of seven subjects. Some of the pupils took on the additional challenge of mathematics paper 3 and advanced programme mathematics, which do not count for university entry points. The subjects do, however, increase the number of possible distinctions a pupil can achieve.
“Overall, the individual results are extraordinary. I congratulate both the girls and staff who have given their all. It was particularly pleasing to see that 88 percent of the marks were higher than 60 percent. Also pleasing was that 41 percent of the marks were above 80 percent. 96 percent of our girls received University exemption,” said Mrs Pauline Jackson, from the school.
St Andrew’s top candidates with nine or more distinctions were Jessica Breet, Portia Buthelezi, Stacy King, Lorena Tafur, Lindsay Thomas and Kirstyn Whiting.
Jessica Endekovski and Danielle Van Veijeren achieved eight distinctions and Amma Boateng, Brittany Lawton, Loshnee Moodley and Chanel Stevens all achieved seven distinctions.
Jessica Breet, Stacy King and Lindsay Thomas are on the IEB Outstanding Achievement list for being ranked in the top five percent of IEB pupils in six or more subjects and for achieving an average of over 80 percent for Life Orientation. Portia Buthelezi and Lorena Tafur are on the IEB Commendable Achievement list for being ranked in the top five percent of all IEB students in five of the NSC subjects they offered and also achieved an average of over 80 percent in Life Orientation.
