Waste water stench

“They just left it like that, no cleaning up afterwards. I suppose the residents must clean after them,” said a resident.

The residents of Steyn and Regent streets in Observatory have complained about the waste water and stench, which has been gripping the area.

“Something has to be done, the smell is terrible. Though it has stopped flowing, the smell remains ghastly from a health point of view,” said a resident, who did not want to be named. The water always flows onto the road, especially after there have been constant rains. The water was flowing along the road for days, before it stopped on Tuesday.

“They just left it like that, no cleaning up afterwards. I suppose the residents must clean after them,” said another resident, who also did not want to be named. The water was flowing towards the Observatory Golf course before the pipe was fixed.

“This is something that needs to be fixed permanently because it always happens when there has been rain,” said a resident.

The EXPRESS sent an enquiry and made several calls to Ms Dudu Lushaba, from the City of Johannesburg. She said she was working on the enquiry.
