Last chance to register

Residents can check their voter registration status by smsing their ID number without any spaces to 32810.

South African citizens will have their last opportunity to either register or re-register to vote in this year’s elections on February 8 and 9.

On these two days, all voting stations will be open from 8am to 5pm.

Residents are urged to take this opportunity to see if they are registered at the correct voting station, to register if they have not done so and to re-register if they have moved.

South African President, Jacob Zuma, is expected to announce the election date after the second registration weekend.

Residents who have not registered will be unable to vote.

Anyone who has not voted before, or who last voted in 1994, will need to register to vote.

Residents can check their voter registration status by smsing their ID number without any spaces to 32810.

Alternatively, residents can visit the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) website on www.elections.org.za

Residents who are not registered, or incorrectly registered and cannot visit a polling station on February 8 or 9, can visit their nearest IEC office during office hours.

The IEC will do home registrations for homebound voters and bulk registrations for retirement villages, old age homes, institutions and schools if requested via various IEC offices to do so.
