Cleveland women’s forum to empower

“This year we intend on helping women at the forum to attain skills that will help them create businesses and provide a source of income. We intend to teach the women at the forum, providing them with skills in sowing, stitching and fabric painting,” said the chairperson Ms Nazeema Abrahams.

The first monthly Cleveland community women’s forum meeting for 2014 took place on January 25 at the Methodist Church in Malvern.

The event gave an overview of the year planned and provided a platform for women in the forum to raise ideas that will contribute to its success for the next year.

“This year we intend on helping women at the forum to attain skills that will help them create businesses and provide a source of income. We intend to teach the women at the forum, providing them with skills in sowing, stitching and fabric painting,” said the chairperson Ms Nazeema Abrahams.

Everyone here at the forum has their own skills and I want the women to start using their skills to their benefit by starting jewellery and sowing businesses using recycled materials. The women will also be taught how to make chairs and tables out of old tires, as well as birthday cards from recycled material,” said Ms Abrahams.

The next Cleveland women’s forum meeting will take place on February 15 at the Methodist Church in Malvern. The meeting will focus on health and lifestyle awareness, as well as reproductive health.
