The Construction of the new Yeoville SAPS building is continuing without any disruptions.

The construction is at a stage where the brick-work and roofing is under construction. The EXPRESS has previously reported about labour-related issues at the site, resulting in the date of completion being pushed back. “We are a month behind, but on a revised schedule,” said Mr Johan Nell, the project manager.

He said the project took longer than expected to complete. “It is a heavy structure with concrete beams. We are at a stage where we are busy with the brick-work and putting the timber on the roof,” said Mr Nell. He said the project was to be complete by the end of June this year. The new building will be a welcomed change from the five-roomed house that is currently being used as police station.

“The new building will have a parking basement, an offloading facility, two floors of office space which will be about 6 500 square meters, a detainee area with six separate cells, a facility for detainees to eat and bathroom facilities,” said Mr Nell. More features of the new building include lecture rooms, victim-friendly support facilities, meeting rooms, a wall around the building, paving, landscaping features, fire protection and a heat pump for energy saving.
