The ward 19 councillor, Clr Bill Rundle, was shocked last week when his request for emergency assistance with several large potholes was greeted with cones and black bags.
“Congrats to the municipality, two orange cones and a black bag in each of the potholes was the response to an emergency request,” said Clr Rundle.
“What a disgrace, Batho Pele and the new Service Delivery Mission Statement included,” he added.
This comes after Clr Rundle inspected an area along Linksfield Road and was horrified to find nothing had been done about several potholes.
“No warning signs have been erected and the damaged wheels of motor vehicles are scattered all over the place. This only reflects the many cars that have been damaged there,” he said.
According to Clr Rundle, he reported the matter to the municipality on Monday evening last week.
“It is the most disgraceful service delivery I have yet encountered. These potholes appeared some months ago. Many vehicles were damaged along Linksfield Road in full view of municipal officials and I, before we could have it addressed,” said Clr Rundle.
“We had it repaired at 9pm at night by volunteers from the Edenvale Municipality and Tembisa. It was temporary and they were going to do permanent repairs later on. This has obviously not been done,” he added.
Clr Rundle confirmed that last week the first claim against the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) was sent through.
“I will support any claim that reaches me as the metro was aware of this life threatening situation,” he said.
The NEWS sent an enquiry to the EMM’s brand management and communications department on March 5 for comment by March 7.
At the time of going to print, no comment was received.
