A 24-year-old man was arrested for the murder of a security guard.
The incident occurred in Madison Street, Jeppestown.
“The police received a complaint about a shooting in Jeppestown. On arriving, officers found a 41-year-old security guard who had been shot and killed. The suspect was found lying next to the security guard. Police officers took the suspect to the hospital for treatment,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the communications officer for the Jeppe SAPS.
According to W/O Munyai, the suspect was fighting the guard for his firearm.
“There were allegedly two or more suspects who tried to disarm the guard, but he fought them off before he was fatally wounded,” said W/O Munyai.
The suspect was shot in the stomach and his accomplices fled the scene, leaving him behind.
“The suspect was arrested and taken to a hospital where he is under police guard. Investigations are continuing,” said W/O Munyai.
