Alison lashes out

Editor - My move to the African National Congress (ANC) was met with much fanfare in the EXPRESS, dated March 25.

I submitted my comment and made the decision to leave it at that, but as time moved on I found the liberal Democratic Alliance (DA) democrats were becoming extremely liberal – with the truth.

Honourable DA Jack Bloom, while I humbly apologise for being an under-performing embarrassment to the DA despite R42-million being secured for Bruma Lake, 600 people’s lives being restored after a major shack fire and the ward 118 DA branch becoming the biggest in your constituency, I have to question your statement in the EXPRESS.

I have approached you to give evidence in support of some of your comments but you have failed to do so.

By the way, when were you planning on spending a night in a shack at the Jumpers Informal Settlement, a forgotten camp in your own backyard?

Then again, the Honourable DA Manny da Freitas has openly admitted that he cannot count. I quote from his letter to the EXPRESS – “I personally called her a number of times expressing my concern at the state of Malvern”.

I asked him to confirm his claims. I quote his response dated April 5 – “I spoke to you telephonically after a resident in Malvern called me expressing concern at the state of that suburb”.

I have only received one call from Mr Da Freitas recently and it was an issue pertaining to his own house which was dealt with. Self-interest? And, when did “a resident” become “several”?

At a DA meeting held on Sunday, March 30, DA Councillor Victor Penning told attendees how the ANC had offered me more money.

Wow, what a windfall! The only problem is that, after repeatedly asking Councillor Penning to tell me where this money was, I have yet to get a reply.

I even invited him to show me evidence of this claim but, again, nothing. I did not obtain any money to motivate me to move, trust me.

Mr Mike Spadino, who is the DA candidate for the ward 118 by-election, and DA Councillor Bongani Nkwanyana, are alleged to have informed DA activists that I “ate their money”, R5 000 it appears.

As tedious as this sounds, I asked them to substantiate their claims but, alas, once again, I was met with silence.

If there is evidence of theft, lay a charge but the DA cannot because no such evidence exists, just the words out of their mouths which cannot be believed.

At least Councillor Carlos da Rocha does not lie. He just thinks his unemployed activists are useless so he denies them the opportunity to earn money by distributing pamphlets.

I even offered him activists from ward 118 but he decided to deny these unemployed volunteers a chance to earn money too.

What is that DA slogan? “Together for Jobs”? Really?

Say what you may about me, throw all the stones you wish, but when you occupy the moral high ground do not go on record with statements you cannot back up.

Despite every effort to give the DA an opportunity to do this, they have failed to do so. It seems the moral high ground is a slippery slope.

Alison van der Molen.
