Do not trust anyone at ATMs

People are urged not to trust anyone, no matter how trustworthy they may seem, while using an ATM.

Sergeant Patrick Tefu, from the Jeppe SAPS, said the theft of bank cards at ATMs is problematic at the moment.

He was speaking at a recent Kensington Crime Forum meeting.

“Criminals are swapping bank cards and robbing people. We are trying to address crimes at ATMs. There have been some arrests, but people must be careful. Do not allow anyone to assist you. Always assume people around you at ATMs are suspicious, just to be on the safe side,” he said.

He said people should be weary, especially just after pay day.

“Some criminals are well-dressed and old, so do not be fooled. You cannot trust anyone,” said Sgt Tefu.
