Competition leaves Toastmasters smiling

Locals took part in a Toastmasters contest held on April 2 for five clubs to battle it out for a spot in the Division 1 contest.

Locals took part in a Toastmasters contest held on April 2 for five clubs to battle it out for a spot in the Division 1 contest.

The winner from the division go through to the District contest to be be held in Pretoria. The ultimate winner will represent the Southern African region in Kuala Lampur later this year.

The clubs which competed at the area contest included Alberton, Bedfordview, Oasis, Egoli Golden City and Village Toastmasters from Edenvale.

Victory went to Egoli Golden City’s Ms Adri Rothman with Bedfordview’s Ms Ann Douglas as runner-up.

Ms Viviane Rozanski from Village Toastmasters was awarded first place for her speech evaluation of demonstration speaker Mr Richard Armour’s speech, with Alberton’s Mr Ronnie Martin in second place.

Toastmasters compete twice a year with the international speech and evaluation contests taking place in February or March within the various clubs.

The humorous and impromptu speeches take place in August. The rest of the year is devoted to self improvement and reaching personal goals within the framework of the Toastmaster programme.
