JRA making inroads with flood damage

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) said it has made progress with the inspection and repairs of road infrastructure, traffic signals, bridges and culverts throughout the city.

Heavy rains earlier this year resulted in significant damage to roads and other JRA infrastructure.

Ms Bertha Peters-Scheepers from the JRA, said in addition to the bridge rehabilitation, the JRA team worked seven days a week completing about 70 percent of damage caused by the flooding.

A total of 23 504 potholes were covered. Work included cutting grass on pavements; clearing, unblocking and minor repairs to drains and fixing faulty traffic signals.

“The JRA is determined to improve the user experience on Joburg roads through modernising and deploying technology to keep traffic signals operating thereby increasing mobility and reducing accidents,” said Ms Peters-Scheepers.

The JRA encouraged residents to report all road and storm water related problems to 0860 562 874, hotline@jra.org.za, @MyJra and the new JRA Find and Fix application.
