Suspects caught

The Jeppe SAPS arrested two suspects in separate incidents for possession of unlicensed firearms on April 26.

Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, said the first incident took place in the early hours of the morning.

“The complainant was walking with his cousin to their house when they were approached by three men at the corner of Main Reef and Ruven roads in Benrose. One of the men pointed a knife at the complainant and demanded money,” said W/O Munyai.

The suspects pushed the man to the ground and assaulted him while his cousin managed to run away.

“One of the suspects searched the complainant while the other two kept kicking him. The suspects took cash, cellular phones and the man’s shoes. Police officers who were passing by saw what was happening and arrested one suspect,” said W/O Munyai.

At about 10am police officers who were patrolling Jeppestown stopped a blue Renault Cleo at the corner of Commissioner and Browning streets. They searched the car and found a revolver with six rounds of live ammunition.

The driver could not produce a license and he was arrested.

The suspects were detained at the Jeppe SAPS.
