Peaceful public holiday disturbed

Now all the dogs in the neighbourhood have started off again.

EDITOR – Well, there we were on a public holiday in the Avenues, Edenvale.

Sounds absolutely idyllic, not so?

Holiday means peaceful inactivity and “Avenues” evokes an image of lovely tree-lined roads and Edenvale; a valley in a tranquil garden in paradise.

The municipality has other ideas, however.

This day has been chosen to have those trees pollarded, which are in danger of interfering with the overhead power lines.

This means constant chain-saw noise, plus at 3.30pm the second house had its alarm triggered.

Now all the dogs in the neighbourhood have started off again.

What rubs salt in the already festering wound is the fact that we live on the side of the road opposite the power lines.

We never have our trees trimmed by the municipality, even though many grow their branches to a size that cause problems for passing vehicles, including the municipality’s own garbage trucks.

Alright, it is important that the trees do not interfere with the power lines, but if, as I understand is the case, the municipality is responsible for the borders between the roads and our walls, please can the trees on both sides be regularly pollarded at the same time, for everyone’s benefit?
