Jean Marco shines at Robofest World Championships

Jean Marco Schnaar-Campbell (13), from Bedfordview, was awarded second place at the 2014 Robofest World Championships last month.

Jean Marco, a grade 8 pupil at St Benedict’s College, participated in the junior exhibition category.

The event took place in Michigan, USA.

Competitors from across the world compete annually with autonomous robots. The robot is programmed to act independently and is not remote controlled.

Hovercraft, space rovers and wall climbers were some of the entries in the junior category.

Competitors were judged on design, innovation, practicality, presentation and interaction with spectators.

Jean Marco’s entry was his innovative Jomosoco Mail Sorting Robot.

Prior to competing in Michigan, Jean Marco qualified by winning the South African Robofest robotics competition at the North West University in March.
