Couple provides soup to elderly

A husband and wife team were recently praised for bringing warmth to an otherwise cold suburb.

Ms Jacqueline Madiba-Chinembiri and her husband Mr Andrew Chinembiri provided over 100 free cups of soup to elderly residents of Malvern.

When asked what inspired them, Ms Madiba-Chinembiri said, “It has always been my dream to show our elderly some form of appreciation for their contributions to every one of us. Providing them with a meal that provides warmth is just one of the many ways to thank them.”

Mr Chinembiri said, “We are dedicated to serving the community in any way we can. Providing soup is just one of our ways of giving back to the community,” he said.

The couple runs the Katia Early Child Development Centre in Malvern.

They started the centre to help local children in need and to provide much needed life skills.

Mr Chinembiri said, “We also help people obtain identity documents, birth certificates and other paperwork they may need and offer help with problems they may experience with municipal bills,” he said.

The couple will provide soup to the elderly every Wednesday at the day care centre.

Elderly residents can visit the centre located at 3 King Street at 12-noon.

Anyone who wishes to assist the team in anyway can contact Ms Bernadette Wentzel on 071 514 2224 or Mr Chinembiri on 071 083 4884.
