Children to share their views at book fair

Children from The Proud Community Youth Development project will perform at the Jozi Book Fair later this year.

Children continue to attend the classes held at the Rhodes Park Library. The last class was held on July 17.

“We were joined by Ms Lerato Mahloko, Mr Chepape Kaycee and Sipho Mbaso from Reader World, Mr Mmakgari Dabutha and Ms Felicia Marion. They encouraged our children so much that they ‘exploded’ with words and inspiration,” said Mrs Faradiba Morton, one of the founders of the project.

She commended the children for the work they are doing and had the following message, “Get involved in everything your child does. Charity begins at home and if you do not get involved in your child’s life then you rob them of becoming all they can be,” she said.

In support of the project, the EXPRESS publishes poems written by the children once a month.

For more information on the project, contact Ms Morton on 074 330 1587.

Below are some of the poems:

All about myself

By Zipho Ozioma

I love myself like I love my family

I go to school to learn because want to pass

I will go to grade four

And when I grow up I want to be a doctor

And I am only ten years old

Happy to be me

By Tochi Mary

Black is my hair, brown is my eyes.

I am eleven and just the right size.

As you can see I am very happy to be me.

Me myself and I

By Diana Tougma

I was born a child, I know what is truth and lies

But I pretend to never feel the pain

You see I have a deep hole in my heart

I was crying blood from my eyes

But I forgive and never had a grudge

Let me tell you something I will never give up in life

I will work hard; I am a child who will have a background

I am standing on my feet and no more on my knees

I know I will succeed in life

I know my past and dream of my future

I know I am as wise an owl and as bright as a star

I am the future, I am the one and only

Diane Tougma, I have to work hard to recognise my strength

My favourite colour

By Isabella Kobiso

Yellow is bright

Yellow is light

Yellow is a part of the rainbow

Yellow is nice

Yellow smells like paint

Yellow taste like sweet candy

Yellow sounds like the drums

Yellow looks like the sun

Yellow feels pure and clean

Yellow sometimes makes me mad

Yellow then breaks the pain and bring beauty

Myself

By Roxzaan Fillies

I look after myself, I look after my body

My name is Roxzaan Fillies,

I am in grade 2 and my favourite colour is pink.

My hair is long, and my eyes are brown.

I brush my teeth day and night.

I love others as myself, I am a caring child.

My poem of me

By Emily Marakalla

I wish I was a teddy bear that lay upon my bed

So that everyone can cuddle me

I dream of touching starts so I dream

When I wake up this feeling becomes a reality

I open my eyes and I see a star

Standing in the mirror staring at me

I dropped a tear and forgot to wipe it

I laughed because you were proud of me

When I was sick, you sat on a chair

And laid down trying to get better

I was sad and then the sun shone again

Then we were both happy once more

I am

By Veronica Fillies

I am who I am says the Bible

I am the future; I am the future of my own life

I am and angle in disguise

I care about myself

There is no hate in my heart

I am filled with happiness

I predict in my future

A life filled with kindness

Love, care and goodness

I am the light; there is no space for the dark

I love, I care, and I am kind
