Bedfordview traffic lights remain out after car crash

The traffic lights at Smith and Van der Linde roads in Bedfordview have been out since August after a crash, with the City of Ekurhuleni awaiting a contractor to replace damaged poles.

A car crash caused the traffic light outage at the corner of Smith and Van der Linde roads in Bedfordview, according to the City of Ekurhuleni.

City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the signal was reported in August.

“The assessment has been done, and the poles must be replaced,” said Dlamini. “As soon as the contractor is appointed, the missing poles will be re-instated.”

Residents have enquired about the damaged signal, with one resident noting it had been lying dangerously in the road for two months.

Dlamini advised residents to report damaged traffic lights to the City Call Centre on 0860 543 000, their ward councillor, or walk-in centres.

An enquiry was sent to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) on October 9, asking for information on the car crash. A follow-up email was sent on October 19; however, EMPD had not commented by the time of publication.
