Hit and run victim seeks answers
About half a kilometer later, either underneath or just after the Gautrain bridge, Mr Pomeroy felt an impact to the back of his bike.
The victim of a hit and run on Modderfontein Road is calling on fellow motorists to assist with information.
Mr Trevor Pomeroy was knocked off his motorcycle on June 3 at approximately 5.20pm while travelling in the vicinity of the Gautrain bridge by a reckless motorist in a black Volkwagen Golf or Polo.
“While travelling south on my motorbike along Modderfontein Road in Chloorkop, I noticed the black new model Golf or Polo with tinted windows frantically trying to pass two white vehicles that were in front of it, dodging from side to side and even trying to squeeze between them,” said Mr Pomeroy.
“As soon as the white vehicle in the right hand lane had moved forward sufficiently, I overtook it and the black car and I moved into the left hand lane. I then created some distance between myself and the three cars,” he said.
About half a kilometer later, either underneath or just after the Gautrain bridge, Mr Pomeroy felt an impact to the back of his bike.
“The impact propelled me into the air. I only recall coming down against the back left passenger door window and seeing the back left gold mag wheel of the black car before landing on the tarmac and tumbling to an eventual halt,” said Mr Pomeroy.
“I assume the same vehicle ran over my ankle causing a serious compound fracture,” he added.
The black car then sped away, which turned the accident into a hit and run.
“My motorbike travelled a few hundred meters before bursting into flames. Witnesses who assisted me at the scene said my motorbike exploded,” said Mr Pomeroy.
“The members of the public who stopped to assist me were fantastic, collecting my belongings that were strewn down the road and keeping my wife informed of my condition. Thank you to all of you. Also, thank you to the Emer-G-Med paramedics who were professional and compassionate,” he added.
Mr Pomeroy is urgently in need of help from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
“Did anybody witness the accident and can furnish me with more details? Has this vehicle been taken to a panelbeater in the area for repairs? The car must have suffered substantial damage to its front left bodywork. Was such a vehicle stolen in the area?” he asked.
Anyone who may have more information can contact Mr Albert Mashabela through the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) radio control room on 011 375-9650.
