Leisure View Village turns 25

A number of residents have been part of the sectional title complex since it was opened and shared memories of the early days.

Over a hundred people, past and present residents, gathered to celebrate the 25th birthday of the Leisure View Village.

Leisure View is situated at the top end of 1st Avenue, off Aitken Road East, and was opened by the Mayor of Edenvale, Councillor L.A Fourie on June 27, 1989.

A number of residents have been part of the sectional title complex since it was opened and shared memories of the early days.

At that time, the entrance was off Aitken Road as there were no proper roads. Residents’ cars would get bogged down in mud when it rained and they had to call on council tractors to pull them out.

As it was pre-Greenstone days, residents who did not have transport exercised by walking to Checkers, which was then situated in Van Riebeek Avenue, where Chamdor is now.

Leisure View is, today, a well-established retirement village for those over 50 years of age and has become renowned for its beautiful gardens.

The complex is made up of over 100 one and two-bedroomed cottages, each with a private garden. The youngest resident is 52 years old and the oldest is 95.
