People urged to be careful around heaters, stoves

People have been urged to be careful while using heaters, stoves, or fires lit to keep warm which could pose a danger.

Last week the EXPRESS reported that three children died from toxic fume inhalation on July 10.

Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, said the mother and another child were taken to hospital for treatment.

The incident took place in Appolonia Street in Troyeville.

It was reported that the victims used an open fire inside the house to keep warm.

Soon after the incident, Colonel Lindiwe Magudulela, from the Jeppe SAPS, urged people to be careful with heaters, stoves and other appliances.

“I am appealing to the community to be more vigilant. Please also spare a thought for the families this tragedy affected,” she said.

She urged people to talk to their neighbours and domestic workers regarding the danger posed by appliances and fires made to keep warm if not monitored.
