Jeppe SAPS police officers responded to a call for back-up on August 1. Information received was that of a white Opel Corsa bakkie involved in an armed robbery in Alberton.
Police officers chased after the suspects from Wolhuter Street. The suspects turned into Berea Road and drove to the Kwa Mai Mai bazaar.
The suspects, in possession of rifles, ran into the bazaar. The vehicle was abandoned in the street and the suspects managed to escape.
The registration number of the abandoned vehicle was checked and it was established that it was a duplicate of another Opel Corsa bakkie.
The vehicle was reported as stolen at the Johannesburg Central police station.
The vehicle was taken to the Aeroton vehicle pound.
