Patrollers for notorious intersection coming soon
One of the first hotspots to obtain patrollers will be the Albertina Sisulu Road, Marcia Street and Allum Road intersection in Bruma.
The Cleveland Community Police Forum (CCPF) aims to deploy patrollers to several hotspots in the precinct to address crime.
Mr Godfrey Mothibe, the chairperson of the CCPF, said patrollers, who will soon be deployed, will be allocated to the Bruma intersection with the aim of addressing the windscreen washer problem.
“Some patrollers have been vetted and are ready to be deployed. We need sponsors to come on board and fund their uniforms,” said Mr Mothibe.
The EXPRESS previously reported that the patroller programme is one of several ideas the CCPF believes will work to decrease crime in the precinct.
It was put on hold previously due to patrollers not being supplied with uniforms and other equipment needed to conduct their work.
Last week, Mr Mothibe said he is positive that the patrollers will obtain uniforms and be deployed.
He urged residents to show their support in the fight against crime by obtaining reflective jackets.
“Several residents and I have already obtained reflective jackets. We wear our jackets wherever we go to make criminals aware that they are being watched. We would like more residents to come forward and apply for their jackets. People who apply will have their fingerprints taken and they will be vetted,” he said.
