Fun walk raises childhood cancer awareness

A childhood cancer awareness five kilometre walk, in memory of Caysie Jenna, was held at the Modderfontein Reserve Park on September 13.

Residents from all walks of life wore a yellow shirt and yellow ribbon to take part in the solidarity walk for the support of children and families affected by childhood cancer.

The walk was also an opportunity for walkers to donate items to children undergoing treatment at Donald Gordon.

Some of the donated items included nappies, toothbrushes, soap, creams, towels, face cloths, colouring books and crayons for girls and boys aged between two and seven years old.

According to organiser Ms Nicole Simonato, “The walk turned out well and we had a wonderful response of over 400 people. It was amazing to see how everyone in the community responded. Everyone walked together in solidarity with yellow shirts in support of childhood cancer awareness.”

“We need to recognise September 13, which is International Childhood Awareness Month,” said Ms Simonato.
