Poetry empowers

Express publishes youngsters' poems.

The Rhodes Park Youth Poetry class, a project aimed at empowering the youth to express their view through poetry, took place at the Rhodes Park Library on Saturday, September 13.

The project, started by Mrs Faradiba Morton from Proud Community Youth Development (PCD), creates an environment for children where they can learn valuable life skills through writing, reading and interacting with each other.

In support of the project, the EXPRESS publishes the children’s poems once a month under Poetry Empowers.

For more information on the project, contact Mrs Morton on 074 330-1587.

Visitors wanting to attend the Rhodes Park Youth Poetry class are welcome.

Strawberries

By Emily Marakalla (11)

Strawberries are yummy fruits

They slide through my trout

A strawberry makes a perfect jam

They are slightly soft and sweet

They taste real nice

With a tingly feeling

You can grow a strawberry

Or plant your own seeds

A strawberry makes me think of love

They have a lovely shape

They make a perfect fruit juice

With that funny shape

A Fishpond

By Dearshney Mukwevho (11)

A fishpond looks very cool

If someone eats fish he is a very big fool

What makes it worse is that

The people eat this fish and think

That fish will grant a wish

But fish are really pretty

They make me want to laugh

And make some people want to laugh

Home

By Jermaine Lekgetho (11)

A home is a wish comes true

A home is what everyone needs

A home is God’s gift

A home is filled with love

That cannot be bought

Spring

By Diana Tougma

Spring is a new season

A time to pick up roses

And trees become green

This is the fruit season

A time to wear mu summer shorts

With fun in the sun

Not like autumn that is very boring

With leaves falling

You will always have to clean

Spring says buy to coffee

No more sleeping

Cause spring is my dream

Being invisible

By Sinikiwe Phiri (9)

Being invisible is sometimes not impossible

Lost inside your imagination

There sometimes is an empty space

This is where I hide and become lonely

Sometimes it makes me mad

When you feel that

There are things that make you sad

You feel like being invisible

This feeling is always possible

Lost in my imagination

Life creeps up on me

And then I feel so lonely.

A Women

By Sasha Ndlovu (10)

A women is a loving caring person

She never gives up and try to make things work

She is someone with a strong mind

Who is able to see right through you

Reaching for the top, over sea’s and big mountains

Past the grieves of life

Her life bring good to all

Touched by her family views

Her voice is beauty, her heart is soul

She hears everything

Just because she knows

She makes me to pursue my life

Who reminds me of my family tree

This woman of influence is my mother you see…

It is over

By Veronica Fillies (10)

The best thing about the past is that the past is over

But I also realised that winning is not everything

That I am not invincible and that I am not alone

Cause friends are a life-time

I need to stop worrying and think of life as a dream

That true love exists and can be forever

My heart can break a few times

Because I am a star, my light can never fade

I believe in dreams and will have a special future

I chase this dream until the end

It is over when I say it’ over

I am a dream…
