A man, believed to be in his 40s, was found dead next to his vehicle on the M2 highway near the Denver off ramp in Johannesburg South this morning.

Paramedics from ER24 were called to the scene, where they found the man lying in a gutter a few meters away from his vehicle. It appears as if his vehicle broke down next to the M2 highway prior to the incident.

Metro Police officers were patrolling the area when they noticed the vehicle standing next to the road with an open bonnet. On inspection, they found the man lying in the gutter and called for medical assistance.

Paramedics indicated that the man sustained a wound to his head, possibly resulting from a gunshot.

There was nothing more that they could do for the victim and he was declared dead at the scene.

The incident was handed over to the local Metro Police at the scene for further investigation.
