Bez Valley honours World War 1 fallen
A remembrance was held at the Bez Valley War Memorial recently to honour the men from Kensington and Bez Valley who died in World War 1.
“This is the time to honour these men who volunteered their time and sacrificed their lives for a cause they believed in. The Bez Valley War Memorial is a historical marker; South Africa was not part of the world during apartheid but we were part of the World War and it important for people to know that,” siad Ms Flo Bird, of the Heritage Foundation.
“I was upset when I saw the state of the memorial. People need spaces like these; it is our park and the community needs to take ownership. People should be able to use the park throughout the year and not just visit in November,” she said.
Ms Bird added that they will be meeting as a community in order to find ways to keep the historical place in a good state.
