Gala event to help children
Sports personalities and celebrities flocked to the Ellis Park Banquet Hall for the for this year's Stars Charity Gala Dinner and Show.
The show was hosted by Abraham Kriel Childcare (AKC) to raise funds for the 1 100 children in its care.
AKC’s social funding developer, Mrs Annamart Vilion, said the purpose of the event was to raise funds to provide educational needs for the children served by the home.
She said the theme of the day was Forget me not.
“For the past 112 years, the AKC has ensured that South African’s most destitute and vulnerable children are not forgotten. It is a privilege to change a child’s life, together with the support of our donors. We can ensure the building blocks are in place to enable them to create their futures,” said Mrs Viljoen.
She added that among the guests were the Golden Lions rugby team, Clive Rice, Manuel Escorcio, Elzette Maarschalk, Joseph Clark, Dawie Root, Jennifer Jones, Johan Stemmet, Carmel Fisher and Villa Rosa.
On the day, children from AKC kept the audience captivated with different performances.
Mrs Viljoen said the AKC houses children who are placed there by the court, as well as children affected or infected with HIV/Aids.
“Some children were abandoned by their parents and some children’s parent died from illnesses related to HIV/Aids. There are also some children whom the court found fit to be placed in a home, away from their own home. They go to different schools in the province and those who need the home-based care, get it. We also help the children with school work and their homework,” she said.
She called on all those who can help the home to contact them on av@abrahamkriel.org.za
