Fotheringham Park clean up

Fotheringham Park received the dedicated attention of I love Kensington Association (Ilka) members and volunteers during a clean up recently.

A small group of volunteered for the clean up but produced big results.

They braved the scorching heat in an effort to clean the park, which has not received much attention from the area’s residents.

Ms Lornette Joseph, the chairperson of Ilka, said the initiative was aimed at cleaning up the park, following numerous complaints from residents in the area.

“We appreciate community involvement because we host the clean up once a month,” she said.

“The community needs to get involved because it is their park, they need to take ownership; if you see a bottle, pick it up. We need all residents to be active, don’t just dump rubbish anywhere,” she added.

Ms Joseph urged residents in Malvern and Kensington to participate in the clean-up days, especially now that the festive season is approaching.

She said City Parks staff will be going on leave and the parks will not be cleaned.

She was disappointed with the turn out but thanked the Malvern residents who came to the clean-up, her team and the Kensington residents for dedicating their time in the initiative.
