Ilka urges residents to stop littering
Littering is a bylaw infringement which carries a penalty for wrong-doers.
The I Love Kensington Association (Ilka) reminds residents of the bylaws regarding littering in the City of Johannesburg (CoJ).
Littering is a bylaw infringement which carries a penalty for wrong-doers.
“Regrettably, there has been a marked increase over the past year in the amount of litter left lying on pavements in black refuse bags, tree branches and other garden refuse. Even normal household refuse has been dumped in, or next to, the municipal bins on the pavement together with building rubble and a miscellaneous assortment of other discarded items. A municipal dump, which takes garden refuse, is situated close-by in 5th Street, at the corner of 4th Avenue in Bez Valley,” said Ms Sue Muller, from Ilka She said this is a matter that should be of concern to all residents, as it is not only an infringement of the CoJ’s bylaws, it also poses a health hazard and creates a negative impression of the suburb.
“We are aware that outside influences are, in part, also to blame for the sorry appearance of our suburb. We urge residents to contact Ilka either by email or telephone if they have any information regarding the dumping of litter which will help us to trace the culprits. Names and contact information received will be kept confidential,” she added.
“We request that our residents take pride in their suburb and make an effort to keep the pavement outside their properties clean and neat. This little bit of effort will help to restore Kensington to its former beauty,” said Ms Muller.
