Station commander to address concerns

This comes after CPF representatives from the community raised concerns that there were officers involved in corrupt activities in the area.

The Bedfordview SAPS station commander, Colonel Sevha Shiburi, has vowed to address the safety concerns of Elandsfontein residents.

Col Shiburi was speaking at a recent Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (BCPF) meeting.

He said he plans to make the community feel safer.

“I want to organise an imbizo where I will parade my officers who work in Sector 3, under which Elandsfontein falls,” he said.

This comes after CPF representatives from the community raised concerns that there were officers involved in corrupt activities in the area.

One of the members, Mr Jerry Mathebula, said law abiding citizens were afraid to report cases through the sector vehicle cellular phone number because of a fear of victimisation.

“The officers will then reveal to the perpetrators who reported them and this puts our lives in danger,” he added.

Col Shiburi said although there are good officers who abide by the law, he cannot ignore the fact that there are individuals who give the police force a bad name.

“This imbizo will let the residents know who works for them. If any of the officers refuse to parade in front of the community, I will then know they have something to hide. This will also help the community to get to know the officers,” said Col Shiburi.

Details of the imbizo have yet to be made available.
