Woman reports false kidnapping and rape

He added that after reviewing the case, it was decided to hand the matter to the SAPS’ Family, Child and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).

Residents have again been urged to not report false cases to the Edenvale SAPS.

This comes after a woman claimed she was kidnapped in Greenstone, taken to Johannesburg raped by her captors.

“The docket was opened in Johannesburg and later sent to Edenvale,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that after reviewing the case, it was decided to hand the matter to the SAPS’ Family, Child and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).

“The case was withdrawn from court proceedings for further investigations to take place. Officers then discovered that the claims made by the woman were false,” said Lt Col Roberts.

“Opening a false case wastes the time and resources of the SAPS,” he said.

Lt Col Roberts added that false cases also create unnecessary fear and panic in the community.
